Choosing The Best Dress (or Dresses) For Your Bridesmaids

Picking dresses for your bridesmaids can be a big decision. There are many questions you must ask yourself: Long or short? Which style are you going to choose? Which colour will be flattering on your bridesmaids? Do you want your maid of honour to stand out? There are so many things to consider when choosing the dress (or dresses). It is even harder if you include your bridesmaids in on the decision (Have you ever seen Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids?)

Go Short
Short dresses are fun and flirty. They are perfect for summer weddings when the weather will be warm. Whether indoor or outdoor, short dresses are great if you are getting married in the warmer months. If you are planning to get married in the hottest summer months like July or August, opt for a flowing dress that will allow air to flow more freely as opposed to a tight dress in a thick fabric.

Go Long
Long dresses are classic and elegant. They add a level of sophistication and classiness to your wedding. While they can work for summer weddings, they are best for the other three seasons due to the heat factor. That being said, you can still go for long dresses in the summer if you opt for a flowing fabric.

Change it up
One popular trend lately has been giving the bridesmaids different dresses. This can be seen as having two different styles in the same colour, each bridesmaid in a different dress but in the same colour, each bridesmaid in the same dress but different colours, or each bridesmaid in a different dress and in different colours. The top two photos show how to change it up in a more traditional way, whereas the bottom two show how to do it in a more fun and creative way. Whichever way you choose, choosing to change it up can add some uniqueness to your wedding.

Make the Maid of Honour Stand Out

Another trend that is being seen lately is making your maid of honour special. A bold way of doing this is to put the maid of honour in a dress that is a different colour than the other bridesmaids. To be more subtle, you could do things such as adding a belt to the maid of honours dress. Either way, making your maid of honour stand out is a way to let everyone know who the maid of honour is, and give her a bit of something special for being such an amazing person in your life.
