Decorating for a Backyard Wedding

Today's blog post is written by guest blogger Erin Whitney. Erin blogs about interior decoration and has written some great tips for creating an amazing backyard wedding. Enjoy!

Backyard weddings have the potential to be unique and very beautiful. This being said, a backyard wedding can be a little tricky to pull off. Follow these tips to create the ultimate backyard wedding of your dreams!

#1 - Is The Backyard Large Enough?
This may seem obvious but you need to make sure you have enough room to accommodate everyone you invite. You want to have enough space for your guests to walk around comfortably, and you need room for a dance floor! Make sure your guest list goes with the size of your space. Space to people ratio is key!

#2 - Renting, Buying and Borrowing
You will probably need to rent chairs for all of your guests to sit on. Is there already a natural "altar" for your ceremony spot? If not, you will need to rent, buy, borrow or build something! Don't forget about food, flowers, decorations and weather. Keep in mind you will need serving dishes, flatware and silverware as well.

#3 - Tend To Your Lawn
Your lawn will be on display so give the space a manicured look. You can do it yourself or hire a landscaper, but you'll want your lawn to look its best. Planting flowers, reseeding, replanting or sodding will give your outdoor wedding a beautiful landscape.

#4 - Incorporate Your Favourite Feature
What makes your home unique - an elegant dining room, an oak tree in your backyard or a beautiful view? Play up your favourite feature and create a homey yet special feel. Use difference centrepieces and mix-and-match vases. You can incorporate flowers from your garden in mason jars to contribute to a stunning atmosphere.

#5 - Outdoor Lighting
When you have your wedding outdoors there are many lighting possibilities. Garden lamps, paper lanterns and string lights on branches will create a beautiful and elegant atmosphere to light up the night sky. Make sure that you have the proper extension cords and cord covers so that when the sun sets you won't have any electrical problems.
