The best places to have a rustic themed wedding is at a vineyard, on a farm, at a rural venue (such as a historic village), or in a backyard. These places all have a lot of greenery and usually have some wooden buildings. Rustic wooden structures make for the best pictures.
Additionally, there is usually a nice wooden outdoor gazebo which is perfect for the ceremony. The pillars can be decorated with fabric and simple flowers. If your location doesn't already come with one, they are usually not too hard to build yourself or to find someone to build for you.
While you can use a lot of things to make your reception look rustic, I would suggest having the reception in a room that has wooden accents, such as timber beams or barn wood walls. This allows you to use less décor items and keep it simple.
Centrepieces
Below are some sample centrepieces from rustic weddings. If you look at the photo in the middle, it is a prime example of a reception venue mentioned above because of the beautiful wooden ceilings and beams.
The key to these centrepieces is the simplicity. They are not overdone. Whether you choose to incorporate mason jars, burlap, lace or wood, make sure to keep it simple. The benefit to this is you will keep costs down because you won't be spending a ton of money on fancy vases and over the top flowers.
Head Table The head table is the centre of attention. Everyone will be looking at it all night long. Whether it is just for the bride and groom, or for the whole wedding party, it is an essential table that cannot be overlooked. The key is simplicity. While the table is the centre of attention, you don't want it to outshine you. I love the head table in the picture. First of all, it is placed in a great location. It has an open window behind it which shows stunning greenery and allow the sunlight to pour in. The table itself keeps it very simple with wooden circles, small vases with flowers. This table is simple yet stunning.
Additional Décor
The most important thing with the additional décor around the room is to have fun with it and stick to the theme. Use the same textures used already - burlap, twine, lace, wood, etc. Use the additional décor to make it your own and personalize it. Use photographs. Integrate social media hashtags so you can follow all the fun online. Check out my post on Wedding Décor on a Budget, as there are a lot of DIY projects that work really well with rustic themed weddings.
