Cake Anyone? Non-Traditional Wedding Cakes

Whoever said to play it safe was wrong. Going non-traditional can be fun, original and memorable. Check out these non-traditional cakes that are sure to be show stoppers!

Unique Designs
Unique designs like this cake of the Taj Mahal are not your traditional wedding cakes. They go with the theme of the wedding and can become a conversation starter.

Split Tiers
This wedding cake takes a unique twist - splitting up the tiers of the wedding cake so they are all separate instead of sitting on top of one another. This adds a level of individuality to your cake without having to spend a lot of money.

Cupcakes
One really popular trend that has popped up lately is using cupcakes instead of cake. A cupcake is distributed to each guest which is much easier and cleaner than cutting the cake (and can even save you on cake cutting fees from the venue.) Many brides use a tower to create tiers which they fill with cupcakes, and then have a small round cake on the very top tier to use for the cutting of the cake tradition. They also are easily transportable for guests to take home if they are too full, and you can make each tier a different flavour if you want to add more options. Cupcakes can also be cheaper, as long as you don't spring for expensive liners and extravagant fondant toppings on each cupcake.

Cake Pops
A newer trend than cupcakes is having cake pops. Cake pops are cake mixed with icing which is rounded into balls, put on a stick and dipped in chocolate. These are easy for guests to eat while walking around or dancing. Like cupcakes, they forgo the cake cutting fee and do not require plates or cutlery either. While this is a hot trend right now, this trend will not be around for the long haul.

Macarons
While searching through wedding cakes, I came across this new non-traditional cake that I have never heard of before - macarons. You know, that delicious French dessert that people always Instagram pictures of. This sweet dessert has been made into a cake, by being "glued" by icing onto a cone. I would assume that guests could come and grab one off of the cone, or different ones would be passed around. I think we will definitely be seeing more of this in the future, as macarons are becoming more and more popular in North America.
